Shirts for the rest of us
Over the summer, I was at a gay pride event admiring some sexuality and gender identity related shirts, and it got into my head that the best shirt to express my (and my partner’s) identities would be something that said “Gay Leather Trans Bear.” I fell in love with it because reduced down to an acronym it becomes GLTB which is almost LGBT (and even closer to the older GLBT). I texted my buddy KK about the idea and they also loved it. Several months later, I attended my first Bear event and realized I need that shirt. I made a rough version of what I envisioned as a design and e-mailed it onto KK to make it look pretty with their photoshop skills.
Since then, I’ve had a couple chances to make some handmade buttons and have been trying to come up with clever sayings and pictures for what I have seen as underrepresented GSM communities (do we really need another version of a “Nobody knows I’m a lesbian” button?). I’ve had a lot of fun coming up with and sketching out designs and thought they would also benefit from some photoshopping and look great on shirts as well! So, while in a fit of exuberance this past weekend, I proposed the idea to KK and they were totally on board!
My and KK’s goal is to create designs that are clever but tasteful - trying to keep all of those nasty isms out of here. We want to create designs for as many different identities as we can think of and then some. Besides the GLTB design we are also currently working on designs featuring general queerness, asexuality, and preferred pronouns. Expect some designs for femme trans boys, butch trans girls, non-binaries, rainbow platypuses (I mean seriously, what is queer-er than that?), poly folk, pansexual people, kinky individuals, and any shade of queer we can think of. Friendly, snarky, confrontational - you can expect it all.
We will be using this Tumblr to showcase our designs as well as publicity. I hope you follow us and watch us grow our potential!
